Understanding the Energy Score
The Energy score measures how dynamic, expressive, and lively a voice sounds, rated on a simple 1-to-10 scale.
It’s important to know that Energy is different from Intensity (loudness). A voice can be loud but still sound flat and monotone (high Intensity, low Energy). Energy is all about the variation and emotion in the delivery.
Think of a news anchor reading a headline: they might have high Intensity (be loud and clear) but low Energy (be very monotone). In contrast, a voice actor telling an exciting story might have high Energy because their pitch and volume vary greatly, making the speech feel lively.
Energy Reference Chart
This chart helps you choose the right level of expression for your needs.
Energy Score (1-10) | Energy Level | Sounds Like a Voice That Is... | Best For... |
---|---|---|---|
1 - 3 | Low | Monotone, flat, and robotic. Very even and predictable. | Reading technical data, financial reports, or any content where you want to remove emotion. |
4 - 7 | Medium | Natural, conversational, and engaging. Has a pleasant, human-like variation in tone. | This is the ideal range for audiobooks, e-learning, blog posts, and most general content. |
8 - 10 | High | Highly expressive, animated, and performative. Sounds excited or dramatic. | Advertisements, character roles, promotional material, or content designed to grab attention. |
Behind the Score: What 'Energy' Means
Our system listens for the variation in pitch and loudness over time.
A voice that frequently changes its pitch (inflection) and volume to emphasize different words will score high on energy. A voice that maintains a steady, even tone with little variation will score low. Essentially, it’s a measure of how much a voice "acts" versus just "reads."
How to Use the Energy Score
- Choose a Low-Energy voice when you need clear, straightforward information without emotional color.
- Choose a Medium-Energy voice for your all-around needs. These are the most versatile and sound pleasantly human.
- Choose a High-Energy voice when you need to create excitement, drama, and capture the listener's imagination.
